Tilt
BasicsWhat it is
The word comes from poker, where a player on tilt keeps playing hands they know they should fold. In trading it is the same loss of control: you can still see the plan, but you are not following it, and part of you knows it in real time. Tilt can come from losing, but it also comes from winning, when a hot streak makes the next size feel small.
Catching it early
Tilt is easier to catch by its symptoms than by its feelings: clicks get faster, position sizes drift, and the journal goes quiet because writing would force you to admit what you are doing. Noticing any one of those is usually enough to step back for a few minutes, which is almost always cheaper than the trade you were about to take.
